Renewing Your Mind with Scripture: God’s CBT

The Apostle Paul wrote, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2). Long before psychology gave us the language of “cognitive restructuring,” God had already spoken the truth: our thoughts shape our lives.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) teaches that we can break cycles of anxiety and depression by replacing distorted thoughts with healthier ones. Spiritually, Scripture is the most powerful “replacement thought” we can carry. When we memorize verses, we arm ourselves with truth in moments of fear, sadness, or doubt.

Imagine replacing “I am worthless” with “I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14).
Imagine transforming “I can’t handle this” into “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).

This is God’s version of CBT: truth over lies, light over darkness, hope over despair.
